Pet Accidents, Upholstery and Mattresses: What to Include in a Cleaning Quote

A carpet mark, an upholstered sofa and a mattress can need different treatment decisions. This guide helps Canberra households describe each item clearly and request a quote without assuming that one room-cleaning price covers every soft furnishing.

Illustrated Dustate guide: Pet Accidents, Upholstery and Mattresses: What to Include in a Cleaning Quote

A carpet mark, an upholstered sofa and a mattress can need different treatment decisions. This guide helps Canberra households describe each item clearly and request a quote without assuming that one room-cleaning price covers every soft furnishing.

Begin with an item list

Name each item and its size: for example, a two-seater sofa, a large mattress or a carpeted bedroom with a known pet accident. Include material labels and manufacturer care instructions where available. Say whether cushions or covers are removable, but do not remove them if the instructions or fittings are unclear.

Dustate’s carpet and related cleaning service can assess the enquiry. A request for upholstery or mattress work still needs confirmation that the item and method are suitable; sending a photo is not an automatic acceptance of every fabric.

Current sofa, mattress and treatment prices

Item or treatmentPublished price
Two-seater sofa$80
Three-seater sofa$120
Single mattress$60
Queen or king mattress$100
Carpet stain treatment$25 per stain
Carpet pet hair and odour treatment$45

Prices are in AUD, with the actual items, condition and treatment confirmed in a fixed, GST-inclusive written quote. Carpet treatment figures should not be assumed to apply unchanged to upholstery or mattresses. Ask what is included for each item rather than combining unrelated prices yourself.

Describe the accident or odour honestly

Explain what happened, approximately when it happened and what you have already used on the area. Photograph the visible mark and its surrounding material. If there is a persistent odour but no obvious mark, say so; the cleaner should not have to infer the problem from a cropped photo.

Pet-related contamination can extend beyond the visible surface. Do not expect a guaranteed result from an item whose underlying condition has not been assessed. Permanent staining, dye changes or contamination in filling, underlay or another layer may limit what cleaning can achieve.

Avoid making the material harder to assess

Follow the product’s care instructions and avoid experimenting with mixed chemicals or saturating the item before the visit. Tell the cleaner about previous treatments, even if they appeared not to work. For a fresh spill, consult the actual manufacturer’s instructions rather than assuming advice for one carpet fibre suits a sofa or mattress.

Godfrey Hirst’s carpet care information illustrates why material-specific guidance matters. It is not a care guide for every furnishing. If the label is missing, disclose that and allow the cleaner to assess suitability before confirming work.

Make access and drying part of the booking

Say whether the item is upstairs, in a tight room or too heavy to move. Clear manageable belongings around it and arrange a route for equipment. Do not assume the cleaner can dismantle a bed or move a large sofa unaided.

Ask when the item can be used again and how to manage ventilation safely for the home. Drying depends on the material, method and conditions, so avoid planning guest use or bedtime around an unverified fixed-hour promise. Make any deadline clear before booking.

Keep scope and expectations separate

  • Identify the item, size, material and care label.
  • Describe stains, odour, loose hair and the affected area.
  • Disclose previous products and attempted treatments.
  • Ask which sides, cushions or mattress surfaces are included.
  • Confirm access, drying advice and any limitations.
  • Request an itemised quote before accepting the work.

Cleaning should not be advertised as a medical treatment, pest eradication or a guarantee to remove every allergen. If the concern needs another specialist service, agree that separately rather than treating an ordinary clean as certification.

For a moving-out booking, tell Dustate which items are leaving and which belong to the property. The end-of-lease guide explains why carpet extraction and other extras need separate agreement.

For the carpeted rooms themselves, the carpet price and drying guide covers room bundles, stairs and access while the carpet dries.

Request an item-by-item assessment

Send Dustate the item list, labels, condition photos and timing requirements. Review the written scope, price and limitations before booking upholstery, mattress or pet-related treatment.

FAQs

Does a carpet bundle include my sofa?

No. Upholstery and mattress work need their own item description and quote. A room bundle should not be treated as a whole-house soft-furnishing package.

Can odour removal be guaranteed from a photo?

No. A photo cannot show every layer or cause. Ask for assessment and a realistic explanation of what the proposed treatment may achieve.
