Arranging cleaning for an older relative starts with their preferences, the tasks they want help with and who will manage the booking. This guide helps Canberra families organise a respectful domestic-cleaning service and check payment arrangements before it begins.
Start with the person living in the home
Ask which jobs are becoming difficult and which parts of the routine they want to keep doing themselves. Agree who may discuss the booking, receive updates and approve changes. A family member can help organise the service without overriding the resident’s choices or treating every possession as clutter to remove.
Write down three or four priorities for the first visit. For example, the household might choose bathroom cleaning, kitchen surfaces and floors, while leaving a study untouched. Use that kind of short, resident-approved list to guide the first quote.
Match the cleaning scope to the household
Dustate’s aged-care cleaning service covers domestic cleaning enquiries. Kitchen and bathroom cleaning, vacuuming, mopping, dusting and bin management can be discussed, with linen changes or laundry arranged expressly where needed.
| Information | Why it belongs in the booking |
|---|---|
| Rooms and priority tasks | Sets a clear scope for the visit |
| Preferred arrival arrangements | Avoids unexpected entry or disruption |
| Furniture and mobility-aid locations | Helps keep familiar routes usable |
| Product sensitivities or surfaces to avoid | Lets the cleaner assess a suitable approach |
| Authorised contact and payer | Clarifies who can approve changes |
This is domestic cleaning, not nursing, personal care, medication assistance or a clinical assessment. If needs extend beyond the cleaning scope, organise the appropriate care service separately.
Check funding before committing to a service
Private payment and government-supported arrangements are different. My Aged Care describes domestic assistance, including general household cleaning, and distinguishes it from excluded general expenses and specialist services. Assessment and programme rules determine eligibility; not every professional clean is funded.
The current Support at Home programme replaced Home Care Packages in November 2025. Confirm the task, provider arrangement and payment approval with the responsible care provider before asking Dustate to begin. This article does not establish that Dustate is a registered aged-care provider or that a particular funding programme will pay its invoice.
My Aged Care also explains costs and contributions. Ask the care provider what the individual will pay, what the budget covers and how invoicing must work. Avoid treating a family member’s assumption about funding as written authorisation.
Understand Dustate’s pricing and screening
Domestic cleaning is priced in line with Dustate’s residential service: starting from $135 for a studio or one-bedroom home, $150 for two bedrooms and $195 for three bedrooms. These are AUD starting prices, with a fixed, GST-inclusive written quote based on the rooms, condition and agreed tasks. Additional bathrooms or extra work can change the total.
All team members hold a current National Police Check. Team members assigned to vulnerable-person services hold current WWVP registrations, and Dustate carries full public liability insurance. Ask any screening questions before booking; these facts do not describe a clinical qualification or programme registration.
Make the first visit predictable
Agree how the cleaner will announce arrival, who opens the door and which rooms can be entered. Tell the cleaner about pets, alarms and places where belongings must stay. Do not put access codes or sensitive personal details in a publicly shared checklist.
If high or awkward windows are a concern, identify them separately rather than expecting the resident to prepare access. The window-cleaning guide explains what to photograph and discuss from a safe position.
The house-cleaner preparation checklist can help the household agree belongings, access and pets before the first visit.
Agree a first-visit plan
Send Dustate the resident-approved task list, access preferences and payment arrangement. Request a written aged-care cleaning quote that records the scope and who can authorise changes.

FAQs
Can I organise cleaning for a parent?
Yes. Agree the arrangement with the resident and identify the authorised booking contact and payer. Confirm how updates and changes will be handled.
Is the service automatically covered by aged-care funding?
No. Eligibility, task coverage and the provider arrangement must be confirmed before service begins. A cleaning quote is not funding approval.
