Illustrated Dustate guide: NDIS Cleaning in Canberra: Self-Managed and Plan-Managed Bookings

This guide is for Canberra NDIS participants, nominees and support contacts considering a domestic-cleaning booking with Dustate. It explains provider status, the information needed for a quote and what to confirm about funding before the first visit.

Dustate’s provider status

Dustate is not an NDIS-registered provider. It provides cleaning services for self-managed and plan-managed participants. It does not accept bookings on the basis that it can directly supply NDIA-managed supports as a registered provider.

The NDIS explains that self-managed and plan-managed participants can generally choose registered or unregistered providers, with exceptions for particular supports. Confirm that the proposed cleaning is an eligible support under your own plan and that the payment arrangement is suitable before booking. Provider choice does not make every household expense claimable.

Start with the participant’s priorities

List the tasks the participant wants assistance with, the rooms involved and any routines that need to be respected. A useful scope might name kitchen surfaces, bathroom cleaning and floors, rather than simply say “NDIS clean”. Identify laundry, linen changes or a one-off reset separately if requested.

The participant should decide who may speak about scheduling, receive booking information and approve changes. Tell Dustate whether the main contact is the participant, a nominee or another authorised person. Share only the information needed to arrange the service; an initial quote does not require sending a full plan or sensitive medical history.

Self-managed and plan-managed arrangements

ArrangementWhat to confirm before starting
Self-managedWho approves the quote, pays the invoice and retains the service records
Plan-managedThe plan manager’s approval process, invoice requirements and suitable funding
NDIA-managedDustate is not registered for this arrangement; use an appropriate registered provider

For a plan-managed booking, ask your plan manager which invoice details and approval steps are needed. A service date, task description and agreed price help identify the work, but the plan manager should confirm its exact requirements. Do not choose a support item or claiming code solely because a cleaner suggests it.

Write the service agreement clearly

The NDIS recommends discussing how you will work with a provider. For a cleaning booking, record the tasks, frequency, access, price, payment process and how changes or cancellations will be handled.

Dustate’s NDIS cleaning service is the place to request the written quote. Starting residential figures are $135 for a studio or one-bedroom home, $150 for two bedrooms and $195 for three bedrooms, in AUD. The fixed, GST-inclusive quote depends on the property and agreed work; these starting prices are not NDIS hourly price limits or a promise of reimbursement.

Screening and practical access

Team members assigned to NDIS work hold current NDIS Worker Screening clearances. All team members hold a current National Police Check, and vulnerable-person assignments have current WWVP registrations. Dustate carries full public liability insurance.

Explain preferred arrival communication, rooms that must remain private, pets and any product concerns. Keep furniture and assistive equipment arrangements under the participant’s direction. Domestic cleaning should not be booked as personal care, clinical treatment or specialist infection-control work.

For provider organisations coordinating several tasks, the cleaning and maintenance guide addresses responsibilities and property work separately. Participant support funding and a provider’s building-maintenance costs should not be assumed interchangeable.

Request a participant-approved quote

Send Dustate the property size, task priorities, preferred schedule and management arrangement. Confirm funding and invoice requirements, then agree the written cleaning scope before the first visit.

FAQs

Can Dustate confirm that my plan will fund cleaning?

No. Confirm eligibility and payment arrangements with your plan manager or appropriate NDIS contact before the service starts. A written quote describes the work and price, not a funding decision.

Can my support coordinator help organise the booking?

Yes, with the participant’s authorisation. Record who can approve the quote and changes so the participant’s preferences remain clear.
