Measure the area without making access unsafe

Give approximate length and width for each section rather than one total that combines different materials. A concrete driveway, paved path and timber step may require different decisions even when they are next to one another. State whether steps, edges, retaining-wall faces or a garage threshold are included.

Photograph the whole area from a safe position, then show representative marks and the edges where runoff may travel. Exact survey measurements are unnecessary for an initial enquiry; an honest estimate and clear images are more useful than guessing a precise figure.
